La Wallonie est une région culturelle et historique occupant le sud de la Belgique. Elle appartient principalement au domaine linguistique roman, par opposition au domaine linguistique germanique du nord. Ce concept de « terre romane » dont le nom a été inventé en 1886, est la base des revendications du mouvement wallon. Elle se concrétise politiquement par la création en 1970 de la région de langue française et de la Région wallonne qui deviendra en 1980 l'institution politique gouvernant la Wallonie. Elle a pour capitale Namur.
