Une partie de ce grand étang "la Mare de Putse" est encore en mains privées, mais fait partie du Parc de la frontière de Kalmthoutse Heide. Comme son nom l'indique, de la tourbe y était autrefois extraite, et cet étang lui doit en grande partie son existence. Aux bords de l'étang poussent des plantes rares comme la rosée du soleil et la massette blanche et brune.
