Islisberg est mentionné pour la première fois en 1185 sous le nom de Nidolperhc. En 1305, il a été mentionné sous le nom d'Isbolzberg. Au XIIIe siècle, c'était un bailliage des Habsbourg. Les principaux propriétaires terriens du village étaient l'abbaye de Muri, l'abbaye de Frauenthal et le monastère de Saint-Léodagar à Lucerne. En 1414, Bremgarten a obtenu le droit de basse justice dans le village, un droit qu'il a exercé jusqu'en 1797. Après 1415, Zurich a exercé les droits de haute justice sur le Kelleramt, y compris Islisberg.
Entre 1360 et 1370, une chapelle est mentionnée dans le village. Cette chapelle a été dédiée en 1937 à saint Antoine de Padoue. Les résidents catholiques appartiennent à la paroisse de Lunkhofen tandis que les résidents réformés appartiennent à la paroisse de Bremgarten-Mutschellen.
