Collina d'Oro est le lieu d'origine de la dynastie des architectes Gilardi, qui travaillèrent en Russie du milieu du XVIIIe siècle au milieu du XIXe siècle, où ils édifièrent de nombreux monuments, palais et hôtels particuliers.
George Harrison séjourna dans le village de Collina d'Oro vers la fin de sa vie[réf. nécessaire], alors qu'Hermann Hesse habita, après la Première Guerre mondiale, le village de Montagnola, où il est enterré ; un petit musée existe aujourd'hui à côté de la maison Camuzzi qui l'hébergea.
