Le col est situé à 1090 m d'altitude au centre du village de Wildhaus dans la commune de Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann. Il relie Gams dans la vallée du Rhin saint-galloise à Neu St. Johann et Wattwil dans le Toggenburg. Le col passe par la route principale 16 entre le Säntis et les Churfirsten.
Les lignes de bus postaux sur cet itinéraire garantissent la connexion au réseau ferroviaire via les gares de Buchs SG, ainsi que de Nesslau et Wattwil.
