Cette localité appartenait en 1789 au prince de Nassau-Sarrebruck, cédée par la France en 1766. Püttlingen appartenait auparavant à la province des Trois-Évêchés et au bailliage seigneurial de Vic. Réuni de nouveau à la France par un décret de la convention nationale du 14 février 1793. Et enfin cédé par la France à la Prusse dans le cadre du traité du 20 novembre 1815.
