Burg est une commune unifiée et le chef-lieu de l'arrondissement de Jerichower Land en Saxe-Anhalt. C'est une ville Roland et elle est également appelée ville des tours.
Burg est située à environ 25 kilomètres au nord-est de la capitale du Land de Saxe-Anhalt, Magdebourg. Berlin se trouve à environ 100 kilomètres au nord-est. Les cours d'eau importants à Burg sont la rivière Ihle et le canal Elbe-Havel. L'Elbe forme la limite nord-ouest de la ville. La région autour de la ville a été façonnée par les glaciations, qui ont également influencé la formation du paysage de la Flämings, dont Burg se trouve dans les contreforts.
