L’étang de Brocken est le nom d’un plan d’eau qui a été créé en 1744 dans le comté de Wernigerode sous le sommet du Brocken, la plus haute montagne du Harz en Allemagne. Il est situé dans l’actuel quartier du Harz.
Dans une lettre datée du 12 août 1744 et écrite au Brocken par le comte Henry Ernest de Stolberg-Wernigerode à son père, Christian Ernest à Wernigerode, il rapporte entre autres choses : qu’hier soir, à environ 1 heure et demie du célèbre étang de Brocken, nous avons même commencé à jalonner des maisons de tourbe... Pour qu’ils puissent être boisés cet automne, mis en route en hiver [et au printemps...] peuvent être triés. Aujourd’hui, nous allons continuer à les jalonner, y compris deux maisons en pierre, spécialement pour les ouvriers.
