Le cimetière communal de Südwestfriedhof à Essen est situé à l'ouest de la ville, dans le quartier de Fulerum. Il constitue la deuxième plus grande aire de sépulture de la ville en termes de superficie, après le cimetière parc. Ici, 2878 victimes des deux guerres mondiales sont également enterrées.
Sur ce cimetière de 37,27 hectares, environ 33 000 tombes abritent bien plus de personnes que le quartier de Fulerum n'a d'habitants.
