La cathédrale d’Altenberg ou Bergisch Dom est l’ancienne église monastique d’une abbaye fondée par les cisterciens en 1133 et a été utilisée à la fois pour les messes catholiques et le culte protestant depuis 1857 sous la direction du roi de Prusse. Bien que l’église du monastère soit qualifiée de « stupide », l’église n’a jamais été une cathédrale au sens de l’église du siège d’un évêque.
