Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein fut un comté du Saint Empire romain germanique entre le Hessen-Darmstadt et la Westphalie. Il fut formé en 1657 par partition de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Wittgenstein. Le comté fut déclaré principauté impériale en 1801. Il fut médiatisé en 1806 et annexé jusqu'en 1815 au Grand-Duché de Hesse, puis fut incorporé à la Prusse. La capitale était Laasphe, aujourd'hui Bad Laasphe. La lignée appartient à la maison de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Le prince actuel de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein est Bernard de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein, qui est prince souverain et comte du Saint Empire et est le fils du défunt Christian-Henri de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein et de la princesse Dagmar. Bernard est également héritier de la lignée de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, puisque le prince Gustave de Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg est célibataire et n'a pas d'enfants.
