Quatre ursulines - dont deux filles du comte de Nesselrode-Reichenstein de Herten - arrivent le 21 janvier du monastère-mère de Cologne à Dorsten. Afin d'éduquer de jeunes femmes dans la foi chrétienne, elles ouvrent dans le « Hohen Haus » de la Blindenstraße (aujourd'hui : Ursulastraße) une école élémentaire gratuite et une école pour filles avec internat. Après l'acquisition de maisons supplémentaires, le « Hohe Haus » est réaménagé en église conventuelle. Aujourd'hui, les ursulines dirigent un important lycée et une école secondaire.
