La population possède un dense passé historique qui a laissé de nombreux vestiges. Les premières traces d'activité humaine dans le terme datent du Néolithique. Dans le soi-disant Camp de les Lloses, on a découvert les restes d'un Vicus romain républicain des Ier et IIe siècles av. J.-C. Le peuplement au sommet de la colline qui domine la population, autour de l'église de San Andrés et du soi-disant château de Tona, semble avoir eu une origine ibère. Par la suite, un autre noyau de population est apparu autour de l'église de Santa Maria del Barri, au pied de la montagne. Au fil des siècles, un nouveau noyau de population s'est développé dans la partie la plus plate, qui a été consolidé au début du XIXe siècle avec la construction de la nouvelle église paroissiale.
