L'ouvrage qui doit son nom au Colysée Royal, lieu de plaisirs et de fêtes édifié à Lambersart au siècle des Lumières, a été conçu comme un véritable “ objet sculpté ” érigé au cœur de la plaine en bordure de la Deûle. Son volume parallélépipédique est traversé dans sa diagonale par un escalier monumental qui mène au sommet de l'ouvrage ( 10,89 m) où on peut porter un regard panoramique sur la plaine, les jardins et le Grand Tournant. Ses gradins offrent un point de vue sur les spectacles et animations proposés sur le site desservi par trois passerelles sur la Deûle.
