L’île de Ré est une île française située dans le golfe de Gascogne, au large des côtes aunisiennes. Faisant partie de l'archipel charentais, elle est la quatrième plus grande île de France métropolitaine, derrière la Corse, l'île d'Oléron et Belle-Île. Autrefois partie intégrante de la province d'Aunis, elle est désormais rattachée au département de la Charente-Maritime et à la région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Depuis le mois de mars 2015, elle forme un unique canton : le canton de l'Île de Ré.
