Richard de Clare, 6e comte de Gloucester, est mort au manoir de John de Criol à Asbenfield dans le Temple Waltham le 14 juillet 1262 à l'âge de 39 ans ; il a été raconté qu'il avait été empoisonné à la table de Piers de Savoie.
Pendant et avant le règne d'Édouard III, la paroisse de Waltham se trouvait dans le hundred de Bridge. Suite à la fusion de certains hundreds, à la fin du XIXe siècle, la majeure partie de la paroisse se trouvait dans le hundred de Bridge et Petham. Parmi les deux constables du hundred consolidé, le monarque actuel était le seigneur de la cour annuelle leet qui choisissait un constable pour le hundred de Bridge.
