Olsene ha nella storia la reputazione di essere un 'villaggio di streghe'. Nel suo libro 'La lotta con il Diavolo: streghe in Fiandre' (1999), Fernand Vanhemelryck menziona Olsene anche una dozzina di volte in relazione ai processi contro le streghe. Si parla addirittura di un sabba di streghe negli anni 1660 a Olsene. Le streghe tenevano le loro diaboliche feste e riunioni sulla 'toveressencnock' (l'angolo delle streghe) lungo la strada Gent-Kortrijk. Intorno al 1660 si svolsero a Olsene processi contro le streghe e alcune persone furono condannate a morte sul rogo. In attesa, venivano rinchiuse nella fattoria del Hof Ter Wallen, l'attuale castello di Olsene, che risale alla fine dell'XI secolo. Le foreste o i boschetti tra Olsene Grot e il nuovo Leie attuale erano in passato chiamati anche 'foreste delle streghe'.
