Pascal Verbeken descrive nel suo splendido libro 'Grand Central Belge' come nel 1892 il Parlamento Belga approvò la legge per l'introduzione di un'ora standard in tutto il regno. Questa determinazione temporale avvenne qui presso l'Istituto Meteorologico Reale del Belgio a Uccle, e fu trasmessa al capo stazione di Bruxelles-Nord. Quel capo stazione fece sincronizzare tutti gli orologi delle stazioni. Ma sapevi che i comuni che non applicavano l'ora ufficiale su torri e altri orologi pubblici si trovavano ad affrontare il giudice.
