Per la prima volta, il comune fu chiamato all'inizio del XIV secolo Frickenhusen. La principale fonte di reddito era la coltivazione del vino. Tuttavia, epidemie, guerre e cattivi raccolti resero il reddito volatile, così molte persone lavorarono dalla metà del XVIII secolo nella tessitura del lino, nella filatura e nella coltivazione del lino.
Dalla Riforma, Frickenhausen è prevalentemente protestante. Oggi c'è una chiesa protestante in ciascuna delle tre parti comunali. Al centro c'è anche una chiesa cattolica romana e da diversi anni una congregazione neapostolica.
