Olfen è una piccola città nel Nord Reno-Westfalia, nel distretto di Coesfeld. Appartiene al distretto governativo di Münster.
La città si trova nel sud del Münsterland, circa 33 chilometri a sud-ovest di Münster, sul bordo orientale del parco naturale Hohe Mark-Westmünsterland. Mentre la Stever scorre direttamente accanto alla città, il nuovo tratto del canale Dortmund-Ems si trova circa due chilometri più a est e la Lippe circa cinque chilometri a sud; il vecchio tratto del canale termina a sud del centro città. La Lippe segna anche il confine tra i distretti di Coesfeld e Recklinghausen tra Olfen e Datteln. Il confine con il distretto di Unna si trova già a nord della Lippe e a est dietro il canale Dortmund-Ems; nel nord-est segue la Stever, che la segue anche più a nord-est tra Lüdinghausen e Selm.
