Il comune di Berne si trova nella parte meridionale della Wesermarsch. Il comune ha un'area di 85 km² ed è situato alla foce del fiume Berne nell'Ollen, un affluente dell'Hunte. L'area comunale, scarsamente popolata e per lo più utilizzata per l'agricoltura, è prevalentemente composta da terreni paludosi. A sud del comune si trovano vaste aree di torbiera. L'attuale area comunale fa parte del paesaggio storico di Stedingen, che comprendeva essenzialmente il territorio del comune di Lemwerder e del comune vicino di Berne.
