La prima menzione di Bad Bertrich risale al 1097 da parte dell'arcivescovo di Treviri. L'area era già conosciuta dai romani che soggiornavano nella Mosella. Nel 1476 il paese divenne una località termale ufficiale e il nome Bad in Bad Bertrich indica che il luogo è una località termale ufficiale. Nel 1787 il principe elettore Clemens Wenzeslaus di Treviri fece costruire un magnifico stabilimento termale con parco.
