Olbersdorf è un comune sassone nel distretto di Görlitz. È la sede dell'ente amministrativo di Olbersdorf. Olbersdorf si trova a sud di Zittau ai piedi del massiccio montuoso di Zittau. Dopo i comuni unici di Kottmar, Großschönau e Oderwitz, Olbersdorf è il quarto comune non urbano del distretto di Görlitz e quindi il più grande luogo non urbano del distretto.
Olbersdorf è conosciuta a livello regionale per l'organizzazione di eventi sportivi, come la corsa montana di Zittau o il Campionato del Mondo ITU di Cross Triathlon 2014 al Lago di Olbersdorf. Nel 2015 si sono svolti nuovamente i Campionati Tedeschi di Cross-Triathlon a Olbersdorf.
