La diga Kinzigtalsperre, costruita tra il 1976 e il 1979, trattiene il fiume Kinzig dell'Hesse tra Bad Soden-Salmünster e Steinau, nel comune di Ahl. Essa è utilizzata per la protezione dalle inondazioni, l'aumento del livello delle acque basse e la produzione di energia. L'area di drenaggio della diga copre 231 chilometri quadrati.
La diga ha un'altezza di 14 m e una lunghezza della sommità di 550 m. È costruita come una diga in terra con un rivestimento esterno in calcestruzzo bituminoso. La massima profondità dell'acqua misurata è di 12 m, ma in estate è solo mediamente di 7,50 m, in inverno mediamente 5,50 m. La superficie dell'acqua trattenuta può raggiungere un massimo di 125 ha con una lunghezza del lago di 3,6 km. La Kinzigtalsperre può contenere fino a 7,2 milioni di metri cubi d'acqua.
