Nel 1965 la comunità ecclesiastica evangelica era cresciuta a 4345 membri. La Johanneskirche, utilizzata fino ad allora, era diventata troppo piccola. La prima pietra per la nuova chiesa fu posata il 24 luglio 1964, e fu consacrata la quarta domenica di Avvento del 1966. I piani provengono dall'architetto Ernst Dossmann. La semplice struttura in calcestruzzo armato crea all'interno una chiara suddivisione, rinunciando a effetti mistificanti. Solo l'area dell'altare è enfatizzata da finestre artisticamente progettate che permettono un particolare ingresso di luce. Il lato dell'altare all'interno è realizzato in arenaria verde. Nel campanile isolato pendeva fino al 1994 solo una campana di acciaio. Fu sostituita da cinque campane di bronzo. Il campanile fu ristrutturato nel 1993.
