Hundertwasser era quasi unico nel suo lavoro artistico, ma ci sono influenze di altri artisti. L'influenza di Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) può essere vista nella sua architettura, specialmente nelle forme organiche e nel lavoro di piastrelle e mosaici di Hundertwasser. Fu anche ispirato dal lavoro degli austriaci Egon Schiele (1890–1918) e Gustav Klimt (1862–1918). Hundertwasser era affascinato dalle forme spiraliche e chiamava le linee rette "malvagie e immorali"
