Il villaggio altmärkense di Böddenstedt, un villaggio stradale con chiesa, si trova a circa due chilometri a sud-ovest della città centrale di Salzwedel. A nord scorre il Dumme di Salzwedel. Il prossimo paese vicino a sud è Kemnitz.
La prima menzione di Böddenstedt risale al 1321 come villam Bodenstede, quando i cavalieri Gebhard e Heinrich von Alvensleben cedettero il villaggio alla città di Salzwedel. Nel 1354 è chiamato in villa Boddenstede. Nel libro fondiario della Marca di Brandeburgo del 1375 il villaggio è elencato come Bodenstede. Tutti i diritti e il mulino, il successivo mulino di Böddenstedt, un mulino ad acqua, appartenevano alla città vecchia di Salzwedel. Ulteriori citazioni sono Bodenstedt nel 1541 e Böddenstedt davanti a Saltzwedel nel 1687.
