Rüxleben si trova con l'insediamento di Darre a ovest di Kleinfurra lungo la strada statale 1034 che conduce a sud, nella vallata di Wippern, ai piedi della Hainleite, a est di Wolkramshausen.
Il 20 marzo 1143 il villaggio è stato menzionato per la prima volta in un documento.
Il luogo era e rimane prevalentemente caratterizzato dall'agricoltura. A Rüxleben c'era una tenuta nobiliare, originariamente di proprietà della nobile famiglia thuringa di Rüxleben, dal 1864 della famiglia Andreae. La tenuta fu espropriata senza compenso sotto l'occupazione sovietica, il proprietario e suo figlio furono arrestati nel settembre 1945. Dopo la redistribuzione della terra a partire dal 1952, anche i contadini dovettero intraprendere la strada della collettivizzazione e, dopo la svolta, trovare nuove forme di agricoltura. Oggi possiedono persino un impianto di biogas ben sovvenzionato.
