Sternschanze è un quartiere nel centro di Amburgo all'interno del comune di Altona. Nel 2014, la popolazione era di 7.776 su un'area di 0,6 km² con una densità di 14.113 abitanti per km². Dopo Reeperbahn, è il quartiere di intrattenimento e vita notturna più noto di Amburgo. È anche conosciuto come Schanzenviertel e soprannominato Schanze.
Il nome del quartiere deriva da una fortificazione a forma di stella costruita nella zona nel 1682 di fronte al Wallring di Amburgo. Dagli anni '30 agli anni '70, il quartiere ospitava un gran numero di lavoratori. Dagli anni '70, famiglie e studenti hanno iniziato a trasferirsi nella zona. È quasi, ma non del tutto, congruente con il distretto di intrattenimento di Schanzenviertel con i suoi numerosi bar e club, che è soprannominato "Schanze" dai suoi abitanti. Nel gergo locale, gli residenti qui vivono "nella fortificazione".
