La popolazione ha un denso passato storico che ha lasciato abbondanti vestigia. Le prime tracce di attività umana nel territorio risalgono al Neolitico. Nel cosiddetto Camp de les Lloses sono stati scoperti i resti di un Vicus romanorepubblicano dei ss. II-I a.C. Sembra che l'insediamento sulla cima del colle che domina la popolazione, attorno alla chiesa di San Andrés e al cosiddetto castello di Tona, avesse un'origine iberica. Successivamente è emerso un altro nucleo di popolazione intorno alla chiesa di Santa Maria del Barri, ai piedi della montagna. Nel corso dei secoli si è sviluppato un nuovo nucleo di popolazione nella parte più pianeggiante, che si consolidò all'inizio del XIX secolo con la costruzione della nuova chiesa parrocchiale.
