Il fiume Nela si trova nella provincia di Burgos, Spagna. Nasce nei Monti di Somo nel comune di Merindad de Valdeporres e sfocia nel fiume Ebro nelle vicinanze di Trespaderne, dopo un percorso di 75 chilometri.
Il suo corso d'acqua è destinato principalmente all'approvvigionamento delle popolazioni del suo bacino, principalmente delle popolazioni di Villarcayo, Medina de Pomar e delle rispettive frazioni. Con un deflusso medio di 160 litri al secondo, in questo periodo si viola la condizione richiesta nella concessione di riservare a valle un deflusso minimo di 100 litri al secondo, quantità impossibile da ottenere quando non c'è un apporto sufficiente. Per alleviare questa situazione è stata studiata la possibilità di creare un bacino di 47 ettometri cubici di capacità nella sorgente del fiume Trueba, a monte della località di Bárcenas.
