Si trova sotto la calle de Santa Engracia, in prossimità dell'intersezione con la calle de Ríos Rosas, nel distretto di Chamberí.È una delle stazioni che appartengono al primo tratto di metropolitana inaugurato il 17 ottobre 1919 dal re Alfonso XIII che discorreva tra le stazioni di Sol e Cuatro Caminos. Negli anni sessanta vennero ampliate le banchine da 60 a 90 metri per rendere possibile l’utilizzo di treni di sei carrozze. La decorazione attuale, con vitrex di colore azzurro, risale alla riforma effettuata durante il 2005 e il 2006.
