Questa piazza forma uno degli insiemi architettonici e artistici più sorprendenti della Spagna , dove convergono tre stili : rinascimentale, mudéjar e neoclassico.
La Plaza de la Asunción è il centro delle istituzioni:
- Civile: il Cabildo Viejo ( Municipio Vecchio)
- Religiosi : prima moschea, poi sede della chiesa di San Dionisio che custodisce il santo patrono della città.
- Casa di Giustizia : il sito attualmente occupato dal Palacio de la Condesa de Casares era anticamente la sede della Giustizia e la prigione cittadina, sin dal XV secolo.
Al centro della piazza, il Monumento a la Virgen de la Asunción si erge in perfetto equilibrio con la bellezza armoniosa del complesso.
Poiché l'Assunzione di Maria è un dogma di fede dal 1950 , molte città hanno costruito monumenti all'Assunzione , come quello eretto a Jerez nel 1952, dopo la promulgazione di questo dogma.
