Givet si trova nella nota fascia di calcare del Devooniano. La fascia di calcare è una stretta banda a sud della Fagne-Famenne ed è composta quasi esclusivamente da calcare del Basso Devoon. È come un gradino per le Ardenne. Si trova decisamente più in alto della depressione della Fagne-Famenne. I fiumi delle Ardenne che attraversano questa regione danno origine a spettacolari fenomeni di dissoluzione. In geologia, questi fenomeni di dissoluzione sono chiamati carsismo.
