La costituzione del comune di Lamezia Terme risale al 4 gennaio 1968 a seguito dell'unione amministrativa dei precedenti comuni di Nicastro, Sambiase e Sant'Eufemia Lamezia. Per effetto ed a seguito del DPR 21 luglio 1972, il comune di Lamezia ha diritto, nei suoi atti ufficiali, di fregiarsi del titolo di città.
