Il paese di Levanto è di antica fondazione, adagiato in una valle ricoperta da ulivi, viti e pini ed affacciato direttamente sul mare. Le dorsali della vallata finiscono in mare col promontorio del Mesco e la punta di Levanto.
Parte del suo territorio rientra inoltre nel Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre e dell'Area marina protetta Cinque Terre.
