Disposta lungo le rive del Lago di Varese, a cui un tempo dava il nome, in posizione quasi di controllo, Gavirate è una cittadina dalle origini antichissime, il cui passato glorioso e ancor poco studiato, ci propone interessanti sorprese. Così come oggi la possiamo ammirare, essa è caratterizzata dalla presenza al suo interno di un numero consistente di centri storici, ciascuno dei quali ha mantenuto sostanzialmente integra la propria identità.
