Castel Goffredo Castèl in dialetto alto mantovano) è un comune italiano di 12 615 abitanti della provincia di Mantova in Lombardia, situato nella Pianura Padana e nell'Alto Mantovano al confine con la provincia di Brescia.
Feudo autonomo gonzaghesco dal 1444 al 1602, qui alla metà del Quattrocento Alessandro Gonzaga diede origine al Marchesato di Castel Goffredo. Nel 1511 il marchese Aloisio Gonzaga diede inizio al ramo cadetto dei "Gonzaga di Castel Goffredo", linea che si estinse nel 1593 ed elesse la fortezza di Castel Goffredo, caratterizzata da un tipico impianto urbano rinascimentale, a capitale del suo piccolo Stato, comprendente anche Castiglione e Solferino.
