Forni Avoltri è un comune italiano di 515 abitanti del Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in Carnia , il più settentrionale della regione.
Forni Avoltri è posto in alta Val Degano , al confine con il Veneto settentrionale a ovest con cui è collegato tramite il valico di Cima Sappada e il territorio di Sappada, e l'Austria a nord oltre il confine italo-austriaco, sotto il versante meridionale della Catena carnica occidentale , attraversato dalla Strada statale 355 Val Degano. All'interno del territorio comunale ricade anche parte del Monte Coglians , il Monte Fleons , il Monte Volaia , il Monte Chiadenis , la creta Bianca , il monte Chiadin il monte Palos di Linch la creta di Tuglia .
