In passato ha avuto altre denominazioni: dapprima Montolmo, poi Pausula per identificazione con la città romana di Pausulae. Assunse il nome corrente nel 1931 in onore del sindacalista Filippo Corridoni, nativo del luogo.
Documentato come castello almeno dal 1115, tra il 1306 e il 1317 visse un periodo di splendore come sede del Parlamento generale delle Marche. Nel 1433 il castello fu distrutto da Francesco Sforza e in seguito ricostruito. Il nome antico, Mont'Olmo, derivava da un antico olmo secolare che si elevava sulla sommità dell'abitato, davanti a Santa Maria in castello. La pianta morì nel 1831.
