Lo stretto di Messina è un braccio di mare che separa l'Italia peninsulare ad est dall'isola di Sicilia e, più in generale, quest'ultima dall'Europa continentale ad ovest, collegando i mari Tirreno e Ionio e bagnando le città metropolitane di Reggio Calabria e Messina, con una larghezza minima di circa 3,14 km tra i comuni di Villa San Giovanni e di Messina.
