Il parco nazionale della Maiella è uno dei 24 parchi nazionali italiani e uno dei tre parchi nazionali d'Abruzzo, istituito nel 1991, compreso tra le province di L'Aquila, Pescara e Chieti, con la peculiarità di presentarsi compatto dal punto di vista territoriale, raccogliendosi infatti attorno al grande massiccio della Maiella, alle adiacenti montagne del Morrone ad ovest, ai monti Pizzi e al gruppo del Monte Porrara ad est, fino agli altipiani maggiori d'Abruzzo a sud-ovest, con la cima più elevata rappresentata dal Monte Amaro .
