Nel 1505, Frosino di Bartolo e due complici furono impiccati dalle finestre qui per lo stupro della moglie di un povero; questo è un fatto storico ben documentato.
Anche gli oppositori politici (come Baccio Valori e i suoi sostenitori nel 1537) furono decapitati nel cortile.
