Born si trova sulla riva destra della Sauer. Attraverso il paese passa la strada nazionale 10, che collega Born a nord con il vicino paese di Girst e a sud con il vicino paese di Moersdorf.
Born è stato menzionato per la prima volta nel 1084 come Burna. Nel 1317 il luogo è stato chiamato Bornen e nel 1340 Burne. Nel Medioevo si sviluppò la cosiddetta signoria di Born, che esistette fino all'epoca francese. Nel 1286 è stato menzionato un Heinrich von Born. La famiglia fece costruire il precursore del castello di Born, che però fu distrutto nel 1705 da un attacco del duca di Marlborough. Nel XVI secolo si estraeva anche sale dentro e intorno a Born.
