Il comune di Overdinkel, situato nel triangolo dei Paesi Bassi-Bassa Sassonia-Nord Reno-Westfalia, si trova a dieci chilometri a est della città di Enschede, direttamente al confine con la Germania, e nel 2020 contava 4.080 abitanti. Il comune confinante sul lato tedesco è la città di Gronau. Il nome del luogo deriva dal fiume Dinkel, che scorre in un arco circa 1,5 chilometri a ovest di Overdinkel in direzione nord.
