Il Maagjesbolwerk è stato completato nel maggio 2003 ed è stato progettato dall'architetto Hans Ruijssenaars, che si è lasciato ispirare dal passato militare di Zwolle. Lo strato inferiore del Maagjesbolwerk è alto dieci metri, corrispondente al bastione originale che si trovava nello stesso luogo. La forma a punta del bastione è anche presente nel design.
