La Foresta Superiore si trova in alto, a circa 200-240 metri sul livello del mare. La Foresta Inferiore si trova leggermente più in basso, entrambe a sud di Epen. Eli Heimans, fondatore di Natuurmonumenten,
ha definito la Foresta Superiore ‘il posto più bello dei Paesi Bassi’. Una parete di marna alta 25 metri, un residuo di una vecchia cava di marna, è chiamata la Rovina di Heimans.
Nella Foresta Superiore sembra proprio che comincino le Ardenne. Abeti, cinghiali selvatici e panorami collinari ti danno quella sensazione di essere all'estero. Ti trovi infatti sul
margine meridionale dei Paesi Bassi.
