Sui Doopsgezinden a Balk, Van der Aa scrive nel suo Aardrijkskundig Woordenboek der Nederlanden: "Anche i Doopsgez., di cui si contano 100 anime, hanno qui una chiesa e comunità, che non appartiene alla Società Generale dei Doopsgezindi, ma in cui vengono officiati da quattro Fratelli Vermaners. Questa è ancora l'unica comunità degli Antichi Fiamminghi in Friesland, che si distingue ancora per la semplicità del culto e dell'abbigliamento, così come per la moderazione dei costumi e dello stile di vita."
