Bârlad è un municipio della Romania che, secondo l'Istituto di Statistica nel 2018, aveva una popolazione di 71 831 abitanti, ubicato nel distretto di Vaslui, nella regione storica della Moldavia.Al censimento del 2002 aveva una popolazione di 69 066 abitanti, corrispondente al numero di persone strettamente connesse alla delimitazione amministrativa della città. La popolazione appare in costante declino per il forte fenomeno dell'emigrazione che contrassegna la città, la quale dagli anni '90 ha assistito ad un marcato calo del numero di abitanti, con un notevole decremento demografico, e comunque rimane il comune più grande e popoloso del distretto di Vaslui, subito dopo il capoluogo distrettuale.
