Il Memoriale di Lincoln è stato costruito per onorare il 16° Presidente degli Stati Uniti, Abraham Lincoln, dall'architetto Henry Bacon e dallo scultore Daniel Chester French. Il pittore degli affreschi interni era Jules Guerin.
Contiene una grande scultura di Abraham Lincoln seduto e iscrizioni di due discorsi ben noti di Lincoln. Il memoriale è stato il sito di molti discorsi famosi, incluso il discorso "I Have a Dream" di Martin Luther King, pronunciato il 28 agosto 1963 durante il raduno alla fine della Marcia su Washington per Lavoro e Libertà.
